Active Fence has a number of
wooden fence
materials, including cedar, board-on-board, picket, and pressure-treated wood. All of these options add great value to your home; to maintain that value and keep your fence in top condition, there are a few steps that you’ll need to take.
1. Stain your fence.
Perhaps the first thing that you should do after your fence has been installed is apply a stain. Wood stains prevent the wood itself from drying out or rotting from too much moisture. You should reapply a wood stain once a year to keep your fence protected.
2. Clean your fence.
Just like the exterior of your home, your fence should get cleaned every once in a while. Dirt, dust, mildew, and other grimy substances can build up on your fence, so a solid cleaning is a necessity. Spraying your fence down with the hose can help, but you may want to consider using a fence-cleaning solution for those tougher spots.
3. Repair minor damage.
There are minor repairs that you can make to your fence without having to rely on a contractor for assistance. Next time you walk the perimeter of your fence, check for any cracks or damages. Small splits and cracks can be fixed with wood glue, and you can tighten up loose boards with a screwdriver. We also recommend applying a coat of wood preservative to the base to help protect against moisture and snow.
4. Paint your fence.
If you don’t want to have to worry about resealing your fence each year, painting your fence is an affordable alternative. This is a project that you can complete yourself, and you can expect that paint job to last for several years. If you notice any chips or peels, simply scrape or strip the paint in that area and retouch up the spot.
